Mathew is a Partner at Battista Migration law Group. He began his work with Battista Migration Law Group in 2020, articling with Michael Battista before being called to the Ontario Bar. His practice includes a full range of immigration and refugee applications, supporting individuals, families, and businesses in meeting their immigration goals. His experience includes assisting individuals and businesses navigate Canada’s economic immigration pathways, helping families reunite through sponsorship, and regularly representing refugee claimants before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). Mathew holds a law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Development from Dalhousie University.
Prior to his work at Battista Migration Law Group, Mathew worked in the non-profit sector assisting in community development and refugee resettlement efforts. Mathew continued this work with the University of Ottawa’s Refugee Hub, working in policy and research and providing litigation support for the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL). His passion for human rights and assisting the LGBTQ+ community also led him to work with the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, Community Legal Services of Ottawa, and Capital Rainbow Refuge where he supported their Queer Refugee Hearings Program.
Mathew is a member of the Refugee Lawyers Association of Ontario, Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association, and the Canadian Bar Association.
