Joycna is a Partner at Battista Migration Law Group, practicing in the full range of immigration and refugee applications. She regularly represents clients before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) for refugee applications and appeals. Joycna also assists clients with written applications for Pre-Removal Risk Assessments and humanitarian and compassionate applications. Joycna's practice also includes sponsorships, LMIAs, and applications for temporary residence, including temporary resident visas, study permits, and work permits. In addition to her oral advocacy before the IRB, Joycna regularly represents clients in judicial reviews, applications for a writ of mandamus, and motions for stays of removal before the Federal Court of Canada. Joycna holds a law degree from Queen’s University’s Faculty of Law, and a bachelor of arts degree, with honours, specializing in anthropology from the University of Guelph. During law school, she was awarded the 2019 George Norman Leipnik Award in International Legal Studies. Since graduating in 2020, Joycna has been developing her practice in refugee and immigration law, with a special interest in gender-related cases. Before joining Battista Migration Law Group, she practiced at a boutique immigration and refugee firm in downtown Toronto.

 

Since 2023, Joycna has been an adjunct faculty member at University of Toronto's Faculty of Law, assisting as a mooting coach for the law school's Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship mooting team. Joycna is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Immigration Lawyers' Association.
